2010 Platform Statements

Student Union

Oren Bukspan and Doris Tang
We want to bring you an SU that truly cares – one that will do everything possible to make YOUR Stuyvesant experience as enriching and fun as YOU want it to be. We want to take advantage of the fact that we’re a UNION of over 3,000 students – not just 30, and not just 2. Within the school we want to give YOU the tools to know that if at any point members are neither working nor thinking, they are not fulfilling their duties. We want YOU to choose new activities so that you can do what YOU’RE interested in, not what the SU wants. We want to show the outside world the power of 3,000, as well: through a charity event donating to an organization that YOU vote on, you can both have a good time and make a difference. Make your vote an educated one. We dare you.

Keiji Drysdale and Kelly Kwan
Keiji Drysdale and Kelly Kwan offer a combination of experience and demonstrated energy. Many issues of concern to students this past year, including funding for clubs and publications, after school events, and tutoring, were not adequately addressed, due, in part, to budget cuts. We will be receptive and attentive to student concerns and we will work to organize students to focus on these issues and ensure that we continue to provide the extra curricular activities that enrich our high school experience. We will work to improve communication, so that all who wish to participate in school programs and events are informed in a timely manner. We are determined to do all we can to make the SU a more effective intermediary between the students and the administration. Keiji and Kelly are committed to representing their fellow students responsibly and with enthusiasm.

Senior

Alexander Wong and Wasi Ahmed
Hey soon-to-be-seniors, Alexander Wong and Wasi Ahmed here letting you know we’re running for Senior Caucus! It’s about time that your representatives are about EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU and ready to let YOU take control of YOUR senior year. We’re committed to bringing the Class of 2011 an obscene amount of senior spirit days, implementing regular and consistent channels of communication between our class and the administration, and planning early to ensure that our senior year will go flawlessly! As upperclassmen, we would also like to expand our influence within the Student Union and work together with other caucuses to prepare them for the years ahead and to plan intergrade events where we seniors can show them just how much better we are. We’re bursting with ideas and we can’t wait to work together with you guys to make our senior year the BEST YEAR EVER.

Omika Jikaria and Emily Quint-Hoover
We, Omika Jikaria and Emily Quint-Hoover, make a dynamic duo. We’ve got a lot of experience and we most certainly are not afraid to stand up for our grade. Our main goals revolve around raising senior spirit, awareness, and interest. We intend on maintaining our already functioning Stuy 2011 website, planning numerous well-organized senior spirit days, organizing Senior vs. Junior games, Senior Comedy Night, fundraising events to be able to hold more senior events, and, of course, an unforgettable Senior Prom. In addition to these events, our open-minded natures will allow us to be accepting of and receptive to the ideas of individuals in our grade. We hope to establish a meaningful connection with our grade through student representative homeroom leaders, which will make up the Senior Advisory Council. What it really boils down to is this: what’s good for our grade is good for us!

Junior

Mohammed Hossain and Shozren Chen
Stuyvesant needs to have more events that bring childhood nostalgia to its student body. We are growing up too fast and need events like those to bring out the child in us. There are many people in Stuyvesant that want to get to know other people but that’s not happening because people aren’t really going to dances. People come from different boroughs and don’t get to meet each other often. That’s why we also need more fun events that everyone will like to attend. The main reason why not enough people are going to the dances is because they’re shy. We need to start small and make events where everyone is comfortable. Junior year is a very difficult year and we need this sort of love and affection. This will keep us happy and help students get to know each other better. Those are changes Sho and I have planned.

Andrew Qiao/Jeffrey Yan
Michael Jordan once said, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” As this year’s junior caucus representatives, we (Andrew Qiao for president and Jeffrey Yan for vice president) will make it happen. In order to make junior year an unforgettable one, we want to promote communication and fervor. Our goals include more school events such as dances, movies, school plays, cultural shows, and most importantly a memorable junior prom. In addition, we will meticulously arrange numerous and successful college trips and by increasing the fundraisers and vending machines in our school, we can cut the costs of the trips. Lastly, we want to negotiate more privileges for Stuyvesant students, especially the out-of-school policy which should extend to free periods. We’re open to suggestions from all juniors, which will gear us towards an exhilarating junior year!

Edward Cho and Stacy Chun
As Junior Caucus, we, Edward Cho (President) and Stacy Chun (Vice President), aim to establish trust with the administration and plan grade-specific events, fundraisers, and of course, a memorable Junior Prom. As Sophomore President, Edward brought back our SemiFormal – a much desired event that was denied to us last year. Edward also helped to plan a College Trip extended to sophomores, and has also been active in SING! and ARISTA. He has already gained considerable familiarity with the school system and administration, making it easier to represent the class of 2012. Stacy also exhibits remarkable leadership, responsibility, and dedication, being part of Stuyvesant Cheerleading and ARISTA. She is very involved in school activities, being the 2010 Girls’ HipHop SING! director and a Korean Night Norimadang participant. With our connections and experience with the SU and school events, we will successfully provide the class of 2012 with a memorable Junior year.

Glory Kim and Julian Michaels
My name is Glory Kim and I am running for Junior Class President with Julian Michaels as my vice president. We believe that we will give you an unforgettable junior year. Junior year is one of SAT’s, subject tests, AP tests, and many other stressful events. But let us not forget the great things it has to offer. The Junior Class for 2011 won SING! this year and we feel that we can help our year to win it as well. Furthermore, we will throw an incredible Junior Prom and it will definitely make up for lacking dances in previous years. We believe that by choosing us, you will receive both G and J. You will have a Great Junior year and we will do a Good Job.

Patrick Chen and Edward Li
We only have one goal if we become president and vice-president. It is to try to fulfill every request the future junior student body has for us. We are willing to listen to anyone about anything. If you think your idea is crazy, we are even crazier. We know that it is hard for anything to get done in this school, so we will not make any promises. We know that many students feel powerless and have stopped caring. If we are elected, we want to get students motivated and aware of their collective power. We want to use the will of the student body to drive changes. We vow to never slack off on our duties; we assure you that our responsibility and dedication to the school, and most importantly to you, the student, will be unwavering and infinite.

Wei Lin and Cheng Ma
We are Wei Lin and Cheng Ma, running for Junior Caucus of 2010-11. We want everyone to participate in the Stuyvesant community; as such, our primary goal for the junior class of ‘11 is to let every voice be heard, and to let every person get involved. To this end, we will bump up communication with the student body and keep everyone informed about upcoming events, what we’re up to, and so on. We will listen to all of your opinions and fight for student benefits. In addition, we’ll try our best to create and maintain a group whose objective is to help juniors prepare for college. This group will be made up of seniors who will help us through the busy and stressful junior year by sharing their advice, expertise, and experiences. All this can be achieved with your support and vote.

Alexander Ge and Cecelia Shao
Elect Alexander Ge and Cecelia Shao for president and vice president of junior year. We promise to make some major changes. We will increase the student participation within our grade, increase cooperation with other grades, and increase the number of fundraisers.

To achieve our goal, we will actively seek representatives from all of the homerooms, so we will know your thoughts and feelings, and we will strive to make your life easier.  We will send a representative to attend the meetings of the other grades to gain insight to the going ons of the whole school.  We also have plans to organize fun events that will allow you to wind down, enjoy yourselves, and hang out with your friends. These events will include a talent show and raffles with prizes you actually want, such as an iPod and gift cards.

You want a fun and exciting junior year? Vote for Alex Ge and Cecelia Shao!!!
